See Kate Bosworth in Little Big Town’s ‘Sugar Coat’ Video

Little Big Town hired another Hollywood actress to star in their latest music video, with Kate Bosworth stepping into a bittersweet role for the new track, “Sugar Coat.”

Part of LBT’s upcoming Nightfall album (out January 17 with pre-orders available now), “Sugar Coat” finds the foursome taking on a razor-sharp ballad of domestic regret. Written by Lori McKenna, Josh Kerr and Jordyn Shellart, it’s all about a marriage on the rocks and a wife who feels powerless to take a stand — so far gone she starts imagining ways to dull the pain.

Filmed outside Nashville and directed by the brother-sister duo, Stephen and Alexa Kinigopoulos, its 1950s themed video stars Bosworth (The Long Road Home, Superman Returns) and Isaiah Stratton (Homeland), with the song’s main character slowly discovering a voice she didn’t know she had.

“I play a woman who is in a complicated marriage,” Bosworth says. “She is often lonely and unfulfilled – realizing that she is not getting what she needs from a partner, devastated by the choices that her husband is making. As she slowly discovers what is happening, while it’s a sad moment, it is ultimately a resilient one. She finds her strength, her fortitude, and ultimately herself. It was an honor to bring this song to life with a band that I love.”

“Sugar Coat” is the second video LBT has cast with a Hollywood star, the follow up to the 1970s Urban Cowboy-inspired clip for “Over Drinking,” which starred Michelle Monaghan and was also directed by the Kinigopoulos siblings.
